MORPHOPHONEMICS

        In this chapter, we deal with the alternants of morphemes when they occur with various kinds of suffixes. Here we try to group and classify the rules on the basis of processes they undergo.

2.1.

Manner of Articulation

2.1.1.

Voicing

Rule (1) changes the sound segments of voiceless series into corresponding voiced series.
(1) [p] [b]
[t] -> [d] / v-v
[k] [g]
Between vowels sounds p, t and k become b, d _ and g.
bip + a ® biba ‘to (the) ferryboat’
snot + un ® snoum ‘pots’
cik + i + ya´ ® cigiya´ ‘in one/someone’
Similar change takes place when the voiceless alveolar fricative occurs before d and g.
