6.1.1.4 Locative sentence
Within the simple sentence structure, those sentences which are used to denote location are called locative sentences. Among the locative sentences type, two sub types are noticed. They are i) Spatial locative and ii) Temporal locative.
6.1.1.4.1 Spatial locative
avaru ka:ukke po:ga:ru ‘They (are) going to te forest’
they - forest- (Dat.) - go (P.T.)
ava pakka:tti kaulu irukkadu
she- near(loc.) -cot - there- (P.T.) ‘There (is a) cot near her’
6.1.1.4.2 Temporal locative
Temporal locative sentences are those which indicate location in time.
ba:ve ra:villi vanda
younger-morning (Loc.) - came (P.T.)
sister - in - law ‘Younger sister - in - law came in the morning.
6.1.1.5 Sentences with intransitive verb
In this type of sentence, the intransitive verb which follows the subject will not co-occur with the object nominals used to denote an action confined to the subject. The intransitive verb will be the VP in this type of sentence.
iva anjina ‘She was scared’
she - scared (P.T.)
amma e:ndä
that boy - got up (P.T.)
6.1.1.6 Sentences with transitive Verb
Action confined to the direct object and the subject is denoted in this type of sentence. The transitive verb in this sentence will constitute the VP.
rangi ni:re kela:kkina
Rangi - water (Acc.) - stirred (P.T.) ‘Rangi stirred (the) water’
avä te:re ruinä ‘He drove the temple car’
he - temple car (Acc.) - drove (P.T.) ‘He drove the temple car’
sokkä mu:nga muRittä
sokan - bamboo - cut (P.T.)
sokkä mu:nga:tte muRittä
sokan - bamboo (Acc.) - cut (P.T.) ‘Sokan cut (the) bamboo’
sentences with inherent transitive verb
ava pamme iina ‘she squeezed (the) fruit’
she - fruit (Acc.) - squeezed (P.T.)
