The verb forms with -eli alternate freely with the verb forms in -nayi. But though -eli forms can occur in all constructions where the-nayi from is used the vice-versa is not possible.

Thus

ŗu:heli a:hi manne/ŗu:nai a:mmanne

‘ploughing is going on’

ŗu:heli hacc? é

‘I went for ploughing’

but not ŗu:nayi hacce? é
