Consonant clusters
In Bhumij, there are consonant clusters, in the
word initial, medial and final positions. There are two consonant clusters
and three consonant clusters. The cluster of two consonants in the word
medial position are more in number
compare to the word initial and word final clusters. The
clusters of two consonants and three consonants in the word final position
are very few.
The clusters of two consonants in the word initial position
are the combination of fricative followed by sonorant or stop andstop
followed by sonorant. The combination of fricative followed by sonorant is
more in number.
The clusters of two consonants in the word medial position
are the combination of stop followed by stop or fricative followedby stop or
sonorant, nasal followed by obstruent, lateral followed by stop and flap
followed by obstruent. Of these nasal followed by obstruent combinations are
more in number.
Two consonant clusters of word final position are three in
number; of these, two have glottal stop as the first member.
