6.3 Phrase types
Under this head we propose to investigate the various types of phrases that are used in the major sentence types listed above. There are four types of phrases noticed in Urali, viz.,
         i)   Noun phrase (N.P.)
         ii)   Adjectival phrase (Adj.)
         iii)   Adverb phrase (Adv. P.)
         iv)   phrase (V.P.)
6.3.1Noun phrase
A noun phrase is the group of words which function as the noun. A noun phrase may consist of an obligatory noun preceded or followed by optional constituents. Following are the types of noun phrases noticed in Urali.
6.3.1.1          N
               avä ‘he’
6.3.1.2         N + N
A noun phrase consisting of two or more nouns which may either be joined by the connectives or merely juxtaposed.
            ra:manum avaum ‘Raman and she’
Raman (also) she (also)
            dumbiyum goddiyum
            dragonfly - and - calotis and ‘dragonfly and calotis’
            aä ba:ve tanga ‘elder brother, sister-in-law (and) younger sister’
6.3.1.3          Attri. + N + N
            ninna agvėyum ammäyum ‘Your mother and Father’
            your - mother-and - father - and
            nanna ku:reyum danavum ‘my house and cattle’
            my - house - and - cattle - and
6.3.1.4          N + Adj. P.
               peRu orutti ‘one woman’
               mü:ga orutä ‘one son’
6.3.1.5          Adj. P + N
               pa:ya kaungu ‘old tuber’
               bu:da pu: ‘purple flower’
