Ordinal marker -ótò is also added to another form of the basic cardinal numeral i.e. mótsà meaning ‘one’. Like the ordinal form vótó’ this form also can be used for both animate and inanimate nouns.

Examples
kyón mótsà-ótò

kyón mótsà-ó

frò mótsà-ótò
or
frò mótsà-ó
first dog
kákò mótsà-ótò
or
kákó mótsà-ó

When definite or indefinite articles are added to the ordinal forms, they are added to the whole ordinal phrase,

Examples
kyón v-ótò-c
man first the
or
kyón v-ó-c
or
kyón mótsà-ó-c
the first man

 Ordinal forms from one to ten are as follows :

1. mótsà-ótò first
2. nì-ótò  second
3. thm-ótò third
4. m-ótò fourth
5. mò-ótò five
6. trók-ótò sixth
7. tíyì-ótò seventh
8. tzà-ótò eighth
9. tkù-ótò nine
10. tárò-ótò tenth

All the above mentioned cardinal forms can be used by dropping the final syllable of the ordinal marker i.e. -tò as explained in the case of ordinal numeral ‘first’.

 

3.11.3. Distributive numerals :

 

Distributive numerals from one to three are formed by reduplicating the final syllable of the cardinal numeral,
Examples
1. mótsà  one
mótsts

one each
nt tóp móts ts pà give them one each
them all one each give

2. ®nì - ‘two
®nìnì two each
°nt® tóp«$  ®nìnì p¢à give them two each
them all two each give

3. thm- three three each
thm thm

Distributives from ‘four’ onwards are formed by reduplicating the full form of the cardinal numeral.
