This work on Gojri language was taken up in 1973 and the data
for this study were collected during two field trips to the
Suran Valley of Poonch District in the years 1973 and 1975 in
Jammu &. Kashmir State. This work was made possible by the
direct and indirect help of many persons.

Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore, for giving me the

community in J & K who helped me during my stay in the field. in

Gujjars: Miya Basir Ahmed, Legislator in the J & K Assembly,

in the Govt. of J & K, Sh. Mohamed Basir Kohli, She A. G. Kohli,
She Mohamed Sadiq, Sh. Faiz Mohmed (all from Lassana village in
Mendhar Tehsil), Maulvi Mohm"ed Sadiq, Maulvi Mohamed Saffi (from
the Kalai village in the Haveli Tehsil), Ch. Hassan Deen and Haq
Nawaz (from the Hari village in the Mendhar Tehsil). They made me
