Now we go on to consider the emphatic N.A-anaphors and begin with svayam . Observe the following sentences:

(58)   ram ne ye kitab svayam kharidi
  i                        i

ram CM this book himself buy+PAST

(Ram bought this book himself.)

(59)   svayam ram ne mohan ko dekha
    i         i

himself ram CM mohan CM see+PAST

(Ram himself saw Mohan.)

(60)   ram ne mohan ko svayam dekha
  i                          i

ram CM mohan CM himself see+PAST

(Ram himself saw Mohan.)

In (58) and (60) each, morphological material intervenes between svayam and ram. In (59), svayam immediately precedes ram. In all the three, the antecedent of svayam is ram which is the agent.

Now, consider:
(61)   ram ne svayam mohan ko dekha
  i          i,j          j

ram CM himself mohan CM see+PAST

(Ram saw Mohan himself.)
